How Moving to Hawaii Can Help You Escape the Fast-Paced Lifestyle
Life in Hawaii is a blend of outdoor activities like snorkeling, hiking, cycling, and running along scenic paths. The vibrant culture and warm sun have made me realize that Hawaii is a place where one can truly relax. The worst-case scenario I imagined before moving here never came to pass. Instead, I’ve discovered endless activities for outdoor enthusiasts, and if you’re thinking of retiring or having a second home, Hawaii should definitely be on your radar. If you’re not here, you’re missing out.
One common concern people have before moving here is whether they can truly be happy in such a small-town environment. With fewer big events and a slower pace of life, it’s natural to wonder if boredom will set in after a year or two. If you’re seeking a nightlife full of packed clubs, bars, and events, Hawaii, especially the Big Island, may not be for you. Oahu might offer a bit more of that energy, but even then, Hawaii isn’t about that fast-paced lifestyle.
For me, the move was all about finding a slower pace and being closer to nature. Before, I was a corporate girl constantly on my phone and computer, but I was ready for a change. Even as a real estate agent, I don’t feel as tied to my devices as I once did.
I have a client story that mirrors my own experience. This couple from Seattle, in their 60s, wanted to escape the hustle of corporate life. They dreamed of a place where they could slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy life. Seattle’s beauty was undeniable, but its constant rain pushed them toward somewhere warmer, where they could enjoy outdoor activities year-round.
They found a beautiful home with ocean views and a small yard, perfect for gardening—a passion of hers. But initially, adjusting to the slower pace in Kona was tough. They even questioned if the move was the right choice. However, over time, the beauty of the daily walks along the ocean, the joy of gardening tropical fruits like papaya and pineapple, and the ease of snorkeling and swimming in the ocean began to win them over. He even took up diving and is now venturing into underwater photography.
They’ve embraced the local culture, joining social groups and enjoying everything from local restaurants to farmers’ markets. It’s a lifestyle without the stress of constant schedules, traffic, and deadlines. There’s something incredibly authentic about living closer to nature and enjoying outdoor activities every day.
If you’re considering a move to Hawaii, be prepared for the slower pace. But don’t let that fool you into thinking there’s nothing to do. From hiking to snorkeling, fishing to farming, and even artistic endeavors like painting and pottery, Hawaii has something for everyone. You can fill your calendar with activities, or simply soak in the natural beauty at your own pace. The weather is great year-round, offering endless opportunities to explore the outdoors.
